lyrics

Well the book is done and the cover's closed,
The pages worn, and the binding shows.
Another volume between all those on the shelf from long ago.
Chapter 1 is long forgot; it ended long before we thought.
Our finger prints stain every page,
The cover's worn and it's faded grey.

Our favorite parts are memorized,
And the greyer moments colorized.
Our past contained and put away,
To be picked up another day.
I pick it up every now and then,
And wish I could go back again...
And start at the front as all brand new,
And re-meet the one that became you.
Although we lived the same words,
We remember different thoughts.
And because the way it ended,
Your memory's all you've got.
And our perceptions might not be the same,
But it's in the past where we remain.
The past distorted in your mind

To make it easier to leave behind.

So I tried to start another one.
The pages white and touched by none,
The setting's in a brand new place with egos left behind.
And now and then my phone will ring,
I'll be reminded of some thing,
How some have heard the words you talk
about me suffering writers block.

Although we lived the same words,
We remember different thoughts,
And because the way it ended,
Your memory's all you've got.
And our perceptions might not be the same,
But it's in my heart where we remain.
The past distorted in your mind,
To make it easier to leave behind.

So was the book you read the same one I read?
Or is the past you keep, could it be the same as mine?
And were those words you said reflections of your memories

and will they be the same when you read in time?
